![]() ![]() Residual–This is not technically a haunting. HauntingsĪlmost all the paranormal sites agree that there are six basic types of haunting activities Well, if you BELIEVE you do, then read on as I try to organize and categorize the different types and levels of ghosts and hauntings. The definition of a plain, old-fashioned ghosts is ” the spirit of a deceased person”. Since I do NOT believe in super-evil, un-named forces from the Dark Side, I am going to stick to plain, old-fashioned ghosts. Depending on who you are talking to, these ghosts might be simple apparitions or super-evil, un-named forces from the Dark Side. Millions of people report seeing, hearing or feeling the presence of “other-worldy spirits”. I am a firm believer in the existence of the ghosts, and my mind will not be changed on the subject. In similar fashion, an object may contain and then flashback the memory or record of past events or people that have surrounded it or owned it (this ability to “read” an object’s history is called psychometry).” In other words, an event that occurs in a certain place is somehow recorded and stored in a manner not yet understood, and later circumstances “trigger” the event recording to be “replayed.” The environment acts as a sort of audio/video recorder, and like a tape player with the right buttons pressed, the event continues to be replayed at any time the playback or trigger conditions are met. ![]() Most parapsychologists consider hauntings to be “recordings” of past events that are repetitiously “replayed” and “decoded” by those sensitive enough to perceive them. Even when people repeatedly “pick up” or sense eerie feelings or “bad vibes” from a place or an object it is often considered “haunted.” However, these experiences may or may not be actual hauntings. “What is a Haunting? Most people think of a haunting as a place, or sometimes an object such as a piece of furniture, that is occupied or “possessed” by “ghosts” of “spirits.” People generally consider a place “haunted” if there has been a history of apparitional sightings, or if unexplained noises, movements of objects, or other strange physical effects repeatedly occur there. And they know there is nothing ghostly going on. It’s possible that the seemingly spooky antics of animals are only noticed by those who watch them a lot, like naturalists. So why aren’t there more reports of vanishing animals?Īnd that is why I’m surprised there aren’t more reports of ghost animals. But there must be times when this sort of thing happens to someone who is not as experienced with the ways of wild animals who may well think that it IS paranormal. I am not suggesting that the way these animals appear or disappear is paranormal, which is why I included explanations for the examples. There are countless other examples of animals, observed by highly experienced naturalists, just disappearing or appearing in the spookiest manner. With the fox, I did not know it was present and so was scanning the scene generally while missing its rapid approach. With the bird in the bush I was concentrating on where I ‘knew’ the bird to be, so not noticing its escape. How could it have appeared, as if from nowhere, when I should have plainly seen its approach? The solution to this puzzle is the opposite of the bird one above. ![]() Then, suddenly, a fox will appear right n the middle of the scene. I might be quite deliberately examining a well-lit night scene, a street for instance, looking for foxes. So while I was patiently examining the bush leaf by leaf with binoculars the bird was already in the next field!Īnother typical experience is animals just appearing out of nowhere. The bird has vanished! In reality, what has probably happened is that the bird did not stop in the bush for long at all but flew out from the other side, unnoticed by me. But after some time it becomes obvious that the bird is not in the bush at all. I then look at the bush with binoculars trying to find the bird. A bird may be in plain sight until it flies into an isolated bush. The following scenario is not unusual among birders. And it’s not just me, other naturalists report the same thing. One thing I’ve noticed about them is their distinctly ghost-like ability to appear and disappear, often right in front of me. As an amateur naturalist, I observe wild animals whenever I can. Some people may not find the disparity surprising, but here’s why I do. By contrast, I’ve looked at a huge number of cases involving the ghosts of humans. While they certainly exist, I’ve only come across a tiny number of animal ghost cases. I sometimes wonder why there aren’t many more animal ghosts. ![]()
